Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team lost back-to-back games for the first time this season, falling 55-46 to visiting Masuk of Monroe on February 13, and 54-49 at Pomperaug of Southbury on February 17.
The Nighthawks fell to 7-4 in South-West Conference play and, with just two regular season games remaining, find themselves clinging to the third seed in the standings. The top four squads will earn quarterfinal-round home games when the playoffs begin at 7 pm on February 27.

Another game, another close outcome – a fifth straight hard-fought win for the Newtown High School boys' basketball team.
The Nighthawks used a wild fourth-quarter outburst to go on a 27-15 run to overcome host New Milford for a 71-62 win on February 4. Newtown earned its fifth straight victory to improve to 9-5 overall and 7-1 in South-West Conference play. New Milford fell to 4-10 overall (1-8 in SWC action).

Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team climbed over the .500 mark for the first time this season by winning twice in as many days — beating host Oxford 56-42 on January 24, and visiting Pomperaug of Southbury 48-46 in a rescheduled game the next afternoon.
It took the Nighthawks nearly a month to get their record even following a frustrating 0-4 start, then less than 24 hours to push over the hump and improve to 6-5 overall.

FAIRFIELD — Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team is proving to be quite a resilient and competitive group. The Nighthawks suffered a tough-to-swallow 63-59 loss to host Notre Dame-Fairfield on January 17, the team’s fifth loss by nine or fewer points, after reeling off four consecutive victories in the wake of a four-game slide to begin the season.
“They compete — they play hard,” Newtown Coach Tim Tallcouch said after the Notre Dame game. “It’s all you can ask for.”

Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team has certainly been competitive in its four games of the season, but the team is yet to get that first taste of victory.
The Nighthawks dropped each game by a single-digit margin, falling by just two points in the season opener against New Fairfield. Although the first contest was the closest on the early season, Newtown Coach Tim Tallcouch has seen progress from game to game.

Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team nearly erased an eight-point deficit in the fourth quarter but a late-game comeback fell just short in a season-opening 51-49 loss to visiting New Fairfield on December 19.
This was a foul-filled contest and both teams saw the outcome literally on the line — the free throw line — down the stretch. All told, the host Nighthawks shot 9 of 20 from the line, and the Rebels were 13 for 23.

STAMFORD — Coming off a remarkable upset victory at fourth-seeded Crosby of Waterbury in the first round of the Class LL state tournament, the No. 29 seed Newtown High School’s boys’ basketball team couldn’t overcome No. 13 Westhill in the second round. The host Vikings ended Newtown’s campaign with a 56-34 win on its home court on March 6.
