• Football Team Cruises Into Bye Week With Triumph Over Bunnell

    Newtown High School’s football team, its 44-13 triumph over visiting Bunnell of Stratford on October 12 making it five straight games with at least 42 points, has spent the season battering the opposition en route to a 5-0 start to the campaign. But the Nighthawks, themselves, are somewhat dinged up, and welcome a week off from game play as they enter into their bye week.

  • Nighthawk Cagers Battle Bunnell To The Finish Before Falling

    MONROE — In a battle between the underdogs and the undefeated Bulldogs, the upstart Newtown High School boys’ basketball team nearly pulled off an upset of Bunnell of Stratford in their South-West Conference Tournament quarterfinal round battle at Masuk High on February 23.

    The tournament’s top-seeded Bulldogs (18-2 overall, and 14-0 in conference play), after trailing for much of the tightly contested game, overcame the Nighthawks (8-12 overall, 7-7), with a 54-47 win to move on in the tourney.
