Newtown Prevention Council (NPC) heard a summary last month of the 2013 Youth Survey Report by Archie Swindell of Quantitative Services. The news received during the September 19 was mixed. The survey found that local youth are smoking less… tobacco, that is. Marijuana is another thing.

The Newtown Board of Education is inviting the community to participate in the superintendent search process.
The board is asking community members to attend a focus group to provide input about the strengths, challenges, and leadership qualities desired in the next superintendent. The Community focus group is scheduled for Monday, October 7, at 6:30 pm Newtown High School’s Lecture Hall.

After the events of 12/14 at Sandy Hook School, Victorinox Swiss Army Director of Marketing Renee Hourigan said the Monroe-based company wanted to help the Newtown Public Schools somehow.
“There was an overall desire to make a gesture of some kind,” said Ms Hourigan, who explained, at first, multiple options were presented to the school district.
