  • SCAN Call For Artists: Annual Juried Spring Show

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) is seeking entries for its Annual Spring Juried Art Show, to be presented at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street, May 3-11. SCAN is an organization dedicated to promoting art and art education in the region.

    All artists may enter works for consideration into the show, whether they are members of SCAN or not.

  • Creating A Landscape With Watercolors, Next For SCAN

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Diane Dubreuil demonstrating watercolor painting at its next program, on Wednesday, April 9, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be painting a landscape.

    The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend the event. Admission is free.

  • Federico Returning For SCAN Program

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host an acrylic demonstration by Frank Federico on Wednesday, March 26, beginning at 1:30 pm. The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

    The public is invited, free of charge.

  • Pastel Program Next For SCAN

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Shauna Shane painting in pastel at its next meeting-program, on Wednesday, March 12, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be a figure.

    The program will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 33 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is welcome, and there is no charge to attend.

    In fictional animal news... Patricia MacLachlan and Steven Kellogg, author and illustrator, respectively, of the recently published Snowflakes Fall, both visited Sandy Hook School last week. I understand that while speaking to one group of students Mr Kellogg, a former Sandy Hook resident, shared a fun fact. Did you know his former canine Pinkerton, who inspired his Pinkerton books (like A Rose for Pinkerton), is hidden in some of the illustrations for some of his other books?

  • Art Critiques By Buchanan, December 4 For SCAN

    On Wednesday, December 4, at 1:30 pm, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host Clayton Buchanan to critique the work of members.

    This program will begin at 1:30 pm at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to observe this interesting process and SCAN members are asked to bring one painting to this valuable critique.

    Mr Buchanan will have a brief conservation with each artist to see and understand the image from the artist’s viewpoint.

  • Painting In Still Life, Next SCAN Program

    “Still Life with Brushes” by Frank Bruckman, who will be the next guest artist for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.

  • Pecora To Paint For SCAN, October 23

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Susan Tilton Pecora painting a watercolor landscape at its next meeting, on Wednesday, October 23, at 1:30 pm.

    The program will take place at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to attend. Admission is free.

  • A Non-Traditional Approach To Portraiture

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Charles Ray painting in acrylic at its next meeting, on Wednesday, October 9, at 7:30 pm.

    The program will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole).

    Mr Ray, a resident of Redding, will be offering a demonstration on portrait painting.
