  • Smith, With Pastel Demo, At Next SCAN Meeting

    Rae Smith will be demonstrating in pastel at the next meeting of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) on Wednesday, April 22, at 1:30 pm.

    This meeting is open to the public and will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). All are welcome and admission is free.

  • Call For Artists: SCAN Spring Juried Show & Sale

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will present its 45th Annual Juried Art Show at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street in Newtown, May 2-10.

    Nationally known artists Henry Burman, Richard Kolezar and Peter Seltzer will judge the show.

    Receiving will be on Thursday, April 30, from 3 to 6 pm. Artists should use the lower rear entrance to access the meeting room, where the exhibition will be presented.

  • McEvoy To Offer Next SCAN Program, April 8

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Newtown artist Dick McEvoy painting a pastel landscape at the next meeting of SCAN, on Wednesday April 8, beginning at 7:30 pm.

    This demonstration will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

  • Art About Town: Shea’s Art Featured In Next SCAN Show

    The Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN) Art About Town series is a partnership between SCAN and local businesses, offering members of the community the opportunity to enjoy the arts as they go about daily chores.

    This year’s host business is The Bottle Stop Wine & Spirit Superstore. Within their store, at 5 Queen Street (next door to Caraluzzi’s Market), SCAN will present five small-scale art shows from March through December. Each show will feature a SCAN artist and run approximately two weeks.

  • Kathy Anderson, Oil Painting Demo At Next SCAN Meeting

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an oil painting demonstration by nationally known artist Kathy Anderson at its next meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, March 25, beginning at 1:30 pm. The demonstration, which is free and open to the public, will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

  • Painting A Still Life: Next SCAN Program At Meeting House

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Rick Daskam painting a still life setup in oil Wednesday, March 11, beginning at 7:30 pm.

    The demonstration will take place in the lower lever of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited, free of charge.

    Rick Daskam is a graduate of Paier College of Art, where he studied with Rudolf Zallinger and Ken Davies. He was honored with the Most Outstanding Illustrator Award at graduation and spent many years illustrating.

  • Asbury To Present Animal Portrait Program, February 25 At Meeting House

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will host artist Melody Asbury, who will be demonstrating animal portrait painting in oil, at its meeting on Wednesday, February 25, at 1:30 pm.

    The meeting and program will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The demonstration is open to the public, free of charge.

  • SCAN Presenting ‘Color In Winter’ At Municipal Center

    A glimpse at seven works included in SCAN’s Color in Winter Show & Sale shows what Show Chair Suzanne Molineaux was talking about when she said this year’s show offers works in myriad styles. The collection, on view weekdays at Newtown Municipal Center, offers works by 25 artists, all members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.


  • One-Day SCAN Holiday Art Show Planned

    For the unusual, but special, holiday gift, The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown is offering a SCAN Small Works Art Show & Sale.

    The special event will be offered one day only, on Saturday, December 13, from 10 am to 4 pm in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street in Newtown. Artist members of SCAN will feature small, original artwork, all under 11 by 14 inches or smaller, for purchase at very reasonable prices. Additional portfolio selections will be available.

  • Pop-Up Art Show, Gentlemen’s Night Out Planned

    Local curator Rosemary Rau would like readers to know of two special events taking place within the next week.

    A pop-up show featuring works by five members of The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will be presented at Barnwood Grill, 5 Queen Street, December 3-6.

    The show will offer works by Suzanne Molineaux, Adele Moros, Dominick Tomanelli, Dorothy Wilson, and Lisa Willvonseder- Greto.
