  • Painting An Abstract In Acrylic, At Next SCAN Program

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have James Grabowski painting an abstract in acrylic at its next meeting, on Wednesday, August 28, at 1:30 pm. The program will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to attend, free of charge.

    James Grabowski speaks of his work as “optimistic celebrations of color.”

    He loves to paint utilizing color, understanding that each color carries its own weight.

  • Portrait Oil Painting Demo At Meeting House, August 14

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown will host an oil painting demonstration by Carol Arnold on Wednesday, August 14, at 7:30 pm. Her subject will be one of her children, who will be posing for her.

    The program is open to the public, free of charge. It will be in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole) in Newtown.

  • Watercolor Landscape Demo, July 10 At Meeting House

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Adele Moros painting a watercolor landscape at a meeting of SCAN on Wednesday, July 10, at 7:30 pm. This demo will take place in the lower meeting room at Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend. Admission is free.

    Adele Moros is a multi-media artist with a background in fashion illustration. She always knew she would be an artist, she said. In her family everyone painted.

  • SCAN Spring Show June 15-22; Reception & Awards Ceremony Sunday Afternoon

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown, Inc. (SCAN) will present its 43rd Annual Spring Juried Art Show at Cyrenius H. Booth Library for eight days this month.

    The will run from Saturday, June 15, to Saturday, June 22, at the library, 25 Main Street in Newtown. An opening reception and awards ceremony is planned for Sunday, June 16, from 2 to 4 pm. Over $1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded.  The public is invited to view the exhibition, enjoy refreshments, and meet many of the participating artists during the reception.

  • Anda Styler At Next SCAN Program, June 12

    “Long Shadows” is an 18 by 24-inch landscape done in acrylics by Anda Styler. Ms Styler will offer a demonstration on creating a similar scene — focusing on the New Mexican color palette — for The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown this month.

     

  • Landscape Pastels At Next SCAN Program

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Gigi Liverant painting a landscape in pastel on Wednesday, May 22, at 1:30. The demo will take place in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole).

    It is not necessary to be a member of SCAN to attend. Admission is free.

  • Student Art Show At Booth Library, Through May 31; Opening Reception Saturday Afternoon

    An exhibition of art by students of Rick Daskam has opened at Cyrenius H. Booth Library, and will remain on view until May 31 during regular library hours.

    For several years, the Society of Creative Arts in Newtown (SCAN) has offered daytime oil painting classes taught by well-known local artist Rick Daskam. Still life oil paintings created in class by some of Mr Daskam’s past and current students are on exhibit in the library’s community room. 

  • Ivers, Nocturnal Cityscape At Next SCAN Program

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have Christine Ivers painting a nocturnal cityscape in pastel at its next meeting, on Wednesday, May 8, at 7:30 pm.

    The meeting and program will be in the lower meeting room of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street (at the flagpole). The public is invited to attend, free of charge.

    Watch the night come to life with the glowing lights and reflections of the city when pure pigment is applied to Ms Ivers’s handmade textured boards.

  • Florals In Oil, Next For SCAN

    The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) will have an oil painting demonstration by Carol Reeves on Wednesday, March 27, at 1:30 pm. Her subject will be a floral.

    The program is open to the public and will be held in the lower level of Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street.

    Carol Reeves divides her time between Maine and Connecticut. This provides her with plein air painting opportunities that would fill any painter’s palette.
