  • NMS Eighth Grade Moves Up And On

    Despite the steady rain and gray skies, there was a celebratory mood at the Newtown Middle School’s Moving-Up Ceremony for graduating eighth grade students, which took place Tuesday, June 18, at Western Connecticut State University’s O’Neil Center.

    Despite an afternoon thunderstorm that brought inclement weather a couple hours before the scheduled 6 pm start, spirits remained high, as the 450 eighth-graders being honored took refuge from the wet weather.

  • NMS Releases Third Marking Period Honor Rolls

    Newtown Middle School recently released its honor roll for the third quarter marking period of the 2012-13 school year. The following seventh and eighth grade students earned their place on the list.

  • BOE Recognizes Top Students, Retiring Employees

    The Board of Education recognized Newtown High School's high-achieving students, Newtown's Math Olympiad participants, and retiring district employees at its Thursday, June 6, meeting.

    "Ladies and gentlemen," NHS Assistant Principal Jason Hiruo said, "may I present to you the top five percent of Newtown High School."

    The students who achieved grade point averages that rank them in the top five percent of the 2013 NHS graduating class were greeted with applause before the school board and members of the public present for the meeting.

    Newtown Middle School recently released its honor roll for the third quarter marking period of the 2012-13 school year. The following seventh and eighth grade students earned their place on the list.

  • School Board Hires NMS, Reed Principals

    Following an executive session Wednesday, May 29, the Board of Education voted to hire Thomas Einhorn to be principal at Newtown Middle School and Anne Uberti to be principal at Reed Intermediate School for the 2013-14 school year.

    According to a release from the school district, Mr Einhorn is currently the acting principal of Hall High School in West Hartford, and was a special education teacher at Sedgewick Middle School, also in West Hartford, before that.

    Authors and illustrators arrived in the school district on Friday, May 17, a day before a scheduled “Turning the Page, New Stories for Newtown” presentation for all Newtown residents at Newtown Middle School.

    Polling for the second round budget referendum is today at Newtown Middle School. Qualified residents are invited to cast ballots on separate town and school requests until 8 pm this evening.

    Odyssey of the Mind team mom Heather Almeter with her daughter, Arline, at Newtown Middle School earlier this afternoon. Mrs Almeter’s son, Aidan, is a member of a team that will be heading to Odyssey of the Mind world finals later this month.
