  • Saturday Night Open Mic For Youth, October 18

    Attention young poets, singers, mimes, magicians, and more: the ninth monthly Saturday Night Open Mic For Newtown Youth, grades 5-12, will take place on Saturday, October 18, from 7:30 to 9:15 pm, in the Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

    Microphones, keyboard, guitar amp and more will be available. A welcoming atmosphere and an enthusiastic all-ages audience makes this a great night every time.

  • Music Workshop To Celebrate With Return Of Youth Open Mic

    The Music Workshop will celebrate the one-year anniversary of its new teaching location at Newtown Congregational Church with the return of Saturday Night Youth Open Mic on September 27. Open mic events take place in The Great Room of the church, 14 West Street.

    “Students of Newtown High School Tech Club will video the open mic for airing on the high school’s Channel 17 on Charter Cable,” says Workshop Director and teacher Jim Allyn.

  • Saturday Night Open Mic Returning June 7

    Attention young poets, jugglers, singers, mimes, magicians, comedians, rappers, dancers, actors, horn players, et al: the seventh monthly Saturday Night Open Mic For Newtown Youth will take place Saturday, June 7, from 7:30 to 9:15 pm. The events are held in The Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

    Performers should be in grades 5-12. Microphones, keyboard, guitar amp and more will be available.

  • Congregational Church Tercentennial Continues With Traditional Worship Service

    NCC members Sandy Treleaven and Pat Hubert walked hand-in-hand from Newtown Meeting House to Newtown Congregational Church on Sunday morning.              

  • Next Saturday Night Open Mic Scheduled

    Newtown musician and music educator Jim Allyn has announced the date of the next Saturday Night Open Mic For Newtown Youth: May 3.

    The May event will shift its start time by 30 minutes, beginning at 7:30 instead of 7 pm. It will run until 9:15.

    Poets, jugglers, singers, comics, musicians and other entertainers are all invited to share their talents during the event, which will again be in The Great Room at Newtown Congregational Church, 14 West Street.

    Suggested donation is $1.

  • Guest Mark Barden Played Flagpole Radio Café

    The spotlight found him center stage, where he quietly settled in behind the microphone. Guest performer Mark Barden, a Newtown resident and accomplished career musician, used few words, and let his guitars do the talking Saturday, March 22, at the Flagpole Radio Café, a local production now in its sixth season.
