    A head-on collision involving a tractor-trailer truck and a compact station wagon early on the morning of Thursday, September 19, closed down a section of Berkshire Road (Route 34) near the Newtown-Monroe border for more than three hours.

    Newtown police on Wednesday continued their probe into a reported “home invasion” on Tuesday morning at a house on Berkshire Road in Sandy Hook, located near the Exit 11 overpasses of Interstate 84.     Shortly after noon Monday, police and emergency crews responded to Berkshire Road in the area of the Misty Vale Deli for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival responders and police found a single vehicle had hit and snapped a utility pole, which caused subsequent power loss and fluctuations to homes in the area.

  • Five Companies Respond To Berkshire Road Fire

    Newtown’s fire companies were on the scene of a fire at 254 Berkshire Road at until nearly 7 pm, Wednesday, where a structure was destroyed.

    Firefighters from all five of the town’s companies, in addition to apparatus and manpower from neighboring towns, were dispatched to the property around 3:20 Wednesday afternoon to the area. The initial call was for a possible structure fire on an property on the eastern side of Berkshire Road but it now appears the fire has destroyed a building on the west side of the state road.
