The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) unit in Newtown will be spared from state budget cuts, State Representative Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) told to The Bee Wednesday afternoon in an email confirming the “great news.”

If you ever wanted to ride the scenic trails of the Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard, this is your chance. The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard’s Annual Spring Trail Ride and Optional Obstacle Course will take place on Saturday, May 2, and run from 9 am to noon (rain date, Saturday May 9). The trail begins at the Horse Guard facility located at 4 Wildlife Drive.

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) invites all equestrians to participate in its Annual Fall Trail Ride.
Sponsored by the Friends of 2GHG, the annual ride will be held on Saturday, November 1, from 9 am to 12 noon. The ride is on beautiful trails that cover more than 80 acres in Newtown. It begins at the Horse Guard facility, 4 Wildlife Drive within Fairfield Hills. There are no water crossings.

The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard (2GHG) will hold its Annual Fall Trail Ride on Saturday, November 2, from 9 am to noon.
Suggested rider donation is $30.
Riders will be welcome to ride along fields and through wooded areas around the horse guard facility at their own pace.
Riders can park their horse trailers on 2GHG property, at 4 Wildlife Drive. Troopers will monitor all road crossings.

Newtown Historical Society will host an open house at its headquarters, The Matthew Curtiss House, on Sunday, May 19.
Master Sergeant Bill Goessinger of The Second Company Governor’s Horse Guard will be joining us along with two of his horses. All are invited to learn about the history of the horse guard, which is headquartered in Newtown, and how it has evolved over the years.
The public is also invited to visit and tour the building at 44 Main Street any time between noon and 4 pm.
