  • A Spring Ballet

    A dress rehearsal for Newtown Centre of Classical Ballet’s annual spring performance took place at Reed Intermediate School on Thursday, June 20, before the curtains opened on the show that weekend. The Malenkee Ballet Repertoire Company danced to both contemporary and classical sounds from artists including Christina Perri, Tchaikovsky, Adele, and Bruno Mars.

  • NEA Grant Will Allow NCAC To Hire Executive Director For HealingNewtown Project

    First Selectman Pat Llodra has announced that Newtown Cultural Arts Commission has received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support HealingNewtown. Mrs Llodra made one of the first announcements about the grant on Friday, June 14, while a guest on CT Public Radio’s “The Colin McEnroe Show.”

    On Tuesday, June 18, Mrs Llodra was joined by Governor Dannel P. Malloy, Senators Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, and Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty in formally announcing the award.

  • HealingNewtown Storefront Closing Wednesday; Plans Take Shape For New Location

    Good news came with the bad on Tuesday, May 21: HealingNewtown Arts Space will close at its doors at its current 5 Queen Street location on Wednesday, May 22, but volunteer director Rob Rabinowitz said he “hopes to hear good news soon” regarding leads on a new location.

    “We are negotiating for space,” which will be announced, he said Tuesday, May 21. Until then, programming locations will be listed in the HealingNewtown.org calendar of events.

  • HealingNewtown To Lose Its Storefront Space

    A venue that had opened its doors to help, to heal, and to make a home for donated artwork and sculptures in the wake of 12/14 may soon lose its storefront space.

    “I run on the notion that we may have only two weeks from today to leave,” said Robert Rabinowitz, a volunteer director for HealingNewtown, on May 1.
