  • Golf Team Wins First Three Matches

Newtown High School’s boys’ golf team won its first three matches of the season as the Nighthawks went into play on Thursday with a visit to Bunnell of Stratford.

The Nighthawks opened the regular campaign against visiting Brookfield at Rock Ridge Country Club on April 9. Newtown shot a 165 and Brookfield shot a 182. Newtown’s Bubba LeBlanc had a 39 to earn medalist honors. Graham Hubbert shot a 44, and Colin Patrick, Josh Houle, and Vivek Tedla all shot a 42 in the win.

  • Nighthawk Golfers Hope To Ride Home Course Advantage Into Postseason

In high school golf, qualification for the state tournament is not based on wins and losses but, rather, course differential. That said, what’s more significant than the fact Newtown High School’s boys’ golf squad carries an 8-4 record into the stretch run is that the season concludes with five straight home matches on the familiar greens and fairways of Rock Ridge Country Club.

“Huge advantage, huge advantage,” Newtown Coach and Rock Ridge Golf Professional Bill Flood said of the season closing out at home.
