David Conrad, 50, narrowly edges Danbury 58-year-old Manuel Batista-Leal for eighth place in the Rooster Run 5K, at Fairfield Hills, on June 20. Conrad completed the course in a time of 19:17, and Batista-Leal finished in 19:18. The race drew close to 300 participants. Christopher Gamble was the top overall finisher, coming across the finish line in 16:48. Proceeds from the Newtown Parks & Recreation-sponsored event benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association.

Christopher Gamble had won his age group, but never claimed first place overall in a road race. That changed on June 20, when the Newtown 18-year-old led a field of nearly 300 participants across the finish line at the 41 Annual Rooster Run. Gamble finished the 5K race in a time of 16:48.
“It feels good to represent Newtown,” Gamble said of winning the Newtown Parks & Recreation-sponsored run, from which proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association.

The 40th annual Newtown Parks and Recreation Rooster Run 5K will start at 8 am on Saturday, June 14. The race begins and ends at the Newtown Municipal Center building in the Fairfield Hills Campus. All proceeds benefit the Newtown Scholarship Association.
Cost is $30 for adults and $20 for students under 17, and there is a preregistration discount of $5 if participants register before noon on Friday, June 13. Visit newtown-ct.gov to sign up.

Thanks to the Newtown community for coming out on Saturday June 15th in support of the Newtown Parks and Recreation’s 39th annual Rooster Run/Walk 5K. We had 464 finishers, a Rooster Run record! It was the closest finish ever with Kevin Hoyt and Zack Shwartz finishing in 15:09. What a great way to kick off the summer season here in town.

Kevin Hoyt and Zach Schwartz led a field of nearly 500 participants in the 39th Annual Rocking Rooster Run at Fairfield Hills on June 15. Both former Newtown High School distance running standouts finished the 5K race in a time of 15:09. Hoyt narrowly edged out Schwartz to claim first-place honors. Hannah Schwartz, Zach Schwartz’s sister, was the top female participant.
Runners were treated to sunny skies and comfortable temperatures in the low 60s for the 8 am competition.
