Housatonic Valley Waldorf School, which celebrated its 25 anniversary this school year, held its annual commencement ceremony for graduating eighth graders on Saturday, June 6, under a tent on the grounds of its Newtown campus.
The students were welcomed to the stage by the school’s pedagogical resource teacher Marleen De Grande, who introduced Leslie Lew, who has been the Class of 2015 lead teacher for the past seven years.

Fraser Woods Montessori School eighth graders graduated during commencement exercises held at the Newtown Meeting House on Tuesday, June 9.
Head of School Myriam Woods welcomed all in attendance before the school's chorus sang "Simple Gifts," which, according to Ms Woods, is a Montessori graduation tradition.
Middle School teachers and graduates spoke during the ceremony, before the diplomas were handed out by Ms Woods and Montessori School Board President Kate O'Leary.

Spring is a season of celebration in Newtown’s schools. The goals set by educators and the educated last September finally come within grasp as May warms into June. The achievements are logged, the achievers listed, bands play, choruses sing, performers take their bows, and awards are bestowed. It all culminates with the Newtown High School graduation ceremonies, which took place this week on Tuesday afternoon at the O’Neill Center at Western Connecticut State University.

The Board of Education voted to schedule the Newtown High School graduation ceremony and the Newtown Middle School Moving Up ceremony during its meeting on Tuesday, April 7.
Both ceremonies will be held at Western Connecticut State University’s O’Neill Center in Danbury.
The NHS graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 16, at 4 pm.
The NMS Moving Up Ceremony will be held on Monday, June 15, at 5:30 pm.

Students and family members gathered in Newtown High School’s cafetorium on Tuesday, February 3, to celebrate 23 students who have completed graduation requirements.
A reception, with food provided by the high school’s culinary department, was held along with the ceremony.
NHS Guidance Director Cathy Ostar introduced the event and thanked everyone who helped make the evening possible, including the parents of the graduates.

After Assistant Superintendent of Schools Linda Gejda recommended a course of dealing with upcoming state high school graduation requirements, the Board of Education unanimously voted on Tuesday, January 7, to increase requirements for the graduating classes of 2018, 2019, and 2020.
During the school board’s December 3 meeting, Newtown High School Principal Charles Dumais outlined possible needs and ways to meet the state’s 2020 graduation requirements.

Newtown High School's Class of 2013 graduated Saturday, June 22, following commencement exercises at Western Connecticut State University's O'Neill Center.
While lining up in the shade outside, in preparation of graduation, members of the 2013 class hugged, laughed, and adjusted the caps and gowns of those around them.
As NHS Senior Class President Rachel DiVanno said during her speech, "Our class, the graduating class of 2013, is more than just simply the best."

There was a surprise waiting for one member of the Henry Abbott Technical High School graduating Class of 2013. It took the impressive form of Newtown High School 2010 graduate and United States Navy Seaman Dustin Hanson, who walked out on stage Monday, June 17, to hand his younger brother, Dylan Hanson, a diploma.
