  • ‘Winter's Light’ On Canvas: Taunton Lake Through An Artist’s Eye

Muted browns and wistful pale blues stretched across artist Patricia Barkman’s canvas. Her oils and brush strokes caught fading sunlight and shadows lengthening across Taunton Lake, reaching for the far shore where bare trees stood waiting for spring. The scene also captured the early March sky mirrored on the lake. Describing the shadows and colors, she said, “It’s winter light.”

  • Artist Includes The Bee In Series Of Newtown Paintings

Artist and resident Jim Chillington propped his easel on the sidewalk  outside The Newtown Bee at 5 Church Hill Road and quickly sketched a view. Taking shape on his canvas was the newspaper’s façade, and in quick strokes the branches of a Japanese Maple and the busy knots of flowers along the sidewalk. Leaning in with bold strokes, he dashed out the lines of Church Hill Road, topped by the flagpole. The end result will be a vivid oil painting.
