  • Town Will Create Two New Pickleball Courts

The men’s voices and laughter carried over the constant paddle smacks against a hollow plastic ball. Rushing the low net on a space smaller than a tennis court at Treadwell Park, Willy Drucker rushed to return a serve from Gavin Preis. They were playing a friendly game of pickleball.

“This is a perfect mix of ping pong and tennis,” Mr Drucker said. Partnering with him was Neeraj Kuman, while Mr Preis partnered with Terrell Harris. The foursome played on the fenced court shortly past noon, Wednesday.

  • Reconsidering A Lending Library For Parks

In January 2014, Mary Kate Halmose raised the idea for creating lending libraries at several town parks. Although she initially meant to earn her Girl Scout Gold Award, her plans for the scouts have changed, but her ideas for the libraries have not.

During a Parks and Recreation Commission meeting last week she told board members, “I did not go through with the project,” and has since graduated high school. She is no longer a scout, but she does want to go through with the project, Mary Kate told commission members Febeuary 10.

  • Building A Bike-Friendly Community

Hoping to generate “some buzz” with a little paint, signs, and marketing, Trails Committee Chairman Scott Coleman proposed two bicycle routes for Newtown.

With Treadwell and Dickinson Parks as starting points, he suggested two- and four-mile routes through neighborhoods surrounding the parks.
