  • Instead Of An Investigator, School Board Turns To Ethics Panel And FOI

    After learning that hiring an investigator would cost roughly $15,000 to $20,000 to look into leaked board communications, the Board of Education decided at a special meeting on Wednesday, November 11, to look into both filing a Freedom of Information “complaint” and to refer the entire situation to the local Board of Ethics.

    The decision came after discussions at multiple meetings on the subject of an e-mail and a screenshot of a text message recently shared on social media.

  • School Board Authorizes 12.14 Foundation Use Of NHS This Summer

    After discussion and hearing from multiple members of the public, the Board of Education voted at its meeting on Tuesday, April 7, to allow The 12.14 Foundation to use Newtown High School’s auditorium and other rooms for its two planned productions this summer.

    The 12.14 Foundation’s goal is to eventually develop a year-round arts center in Newtown. This is the third year the foundation will involve local students and residents in musical productions.

  • Alexander Named New Board Of Education Chair, NHS Administrative Vacancy Also Filled

    The Board of Education unanimously voted to hire David Roach of Southbury to fill a vacant assistant principal position at Newtown High School during its meeting on Tuesday, July 15. Later in the meeting the school board also voted to name Keith Alexander as its new chair.

    “Welcome,” school board Vice Chair Laura Roche said after the vote to hire Mr Roach.
