  • Village Cemetery Tour Conjures Newtown History

    Town Historian Dan Cruson offered a walking tour of the Village Cemetery on Sunday, June 14.

    While standing in the newer section of the cemetery, Mr Cruson said he would not be talking about the 21st Century graves, but would be focusing on graves from the 18th, 19th, and 20th Centuries.

  • Town Historian’s Annual Lecture: ‘A Night At The Nickelodeon,’ Monday

    Before it was a television channel, the word “nickelodeon” meant a performance that cost a nickel: juke box, player piano, and especially a movie theater. On Monday, January 12, at 7:30 pm, Town Historian Daniel Cruson will give his annual lecture, this year looking at “A Night At The Nickelodeon.”

    The program will take place in the lower meeting room of C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

    Town Historian Daniel Cruson’s newest book will be released by Arcadia Publishing this week. Legendary Locals of Newtown is a compilation of images and information on many of the men and women who have formed Newtown since its purchase from the native Pootatucks in 1705.
