The 12.14 Foundation is well into rehearsals for two productions that will be presented at Newtown High School next month.
The world premiere of A Rockin’ Midsummer Night’s Dream is a new musical version of Shakespeare’s story adapted by Michael Unger and Eric Svejcar with a score by Mr Svejcar.

Rock star Dennis DeYoung has performed before millions of fans as a musician and actor; has been honored with a number one hit and People’s Choice Award for his touching ballad, “Babe” as a member of the rock band Styx; and has contributed his creative talents to full-scale musical productions.

“Connecticut’s Got Talent” is a talent competition open to anyone ages 5 to 105 with a desire to bring their family friendly talent to the stage.
The competition, scheduled for Tuesday, August 5, at Newtown High School, will help fund The 12.14 Foundation’s two summer musicals: A Rockin’ Midsummer Night’s Dream and The 101 Dalmatians Musical.

Building on the success of last year’s production of Seussical: The Musical, The 12.14 Foundation is pleased to announce auditions for its summer 2014 season of shows. The foundation is planning two shows this year: A Rockin’ Midsummer Night’s Dream and The 101 Dalmatians Musical.

The father of two young children, Newtown resident Dr Michael Baroody saw the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012, as “an assault on our soul, with no verbal way to communicate what had happened. I felt like I had lost my own kids, but I realized that my world is not just my living room. These Newtown children are our kids and it is our responsibility to protect our kids.”

Joining the charitable efforts emanating from Newtown to employ the performing arts as a healing mechanism in the wake of 12/14, The 12.14 Foundation announced this week the selection of platinum-selling country music singer-songwriter Scotty McCreery as its first National Goodwill Ambassador. He will play an active role in promoting the foundation’s arts programming, supporting its fundraising efforts, and building awareness for the organization’s plans to build a world-class performing arts and education center in Newtown.

Twenty-six local runners will be hitting the streets of Hartford next weekend, participating in either the full or half versions of the ING Hartford Marathon. And while their feet will be in the capital city, their hearts and collective energy will be with their friends and neighbors from Newtown who were deeply affected by the events of 12/14.
