  • Cross Country And Field Hockey Teams Prepping For Tuesday Openers

As midsummerlike temperatures greeted the cross country team participants for practices in the first week of September, they had cool-weather success on their minds. By the time the late October South-West Conference championships roll around, the 90-degree heat will likely be long gone, and Newtown High School’s runners hope to be leaving many of their competitors in the dust on their way to conference success.

  • Field Hockey Team Hopes For Playoff Run

A strong returning group is back in place as the Newtown High School field hockey team strives to build off of last year’s results and perhaps make a run at a South-West Conference championship.

The team lost four players to graduation, but retains plenty of talent — including ten seniors — whom Coach Stephanie Paproski hopes can bring the Nighthawks to a title this fall.

  • New Coach Leads New-Look Field Hockey Squad

Newtown High School’s field hockey team has a new look almost entirely across the board. Stephanie Paproski takes over head coaching duties, and the first-year leader inherits a significantly inexperienced roster since 16 players graduated last year.

“It’s a very exciting time. I’m looking forward to it. A great group of girls this year — a lot of talent,” said Paproski, a former Nighthawk field hockey player herself. She graduated from NHS in 2008 and went on to play at Castleton State College of Vermont.
