Lee Paulson and volunteers at FAITH Food Pantry in Sandy Hook had a nasty surprise when they opened up on the Thursday before Christmas. The large chest freezer, containing 29 frozen turkeys and other meats, had died. But thanks to the generosity of Steve Ford at Butcher’s Best Market, says Lee, none of the items went to waste. “Steve let us put all 29 frozen turkeys into the freezer at Butcher’s Best,” she says. The rest of the meats were packed into the smaller freezer at FAITH. “But God bless Steve.

Maybe you were one of the lucky ones to hear these singers: A group of about 20 people, adults and children, embarked on a special night of caroling this past holiday season, inspired by Extreme Martial Arts owners Cindy and husband Russ Moore. The group met at the martial arts studio in the Plaza South, then ventured to three local homes of people who needed a bit more joy for the holidays. I understand cookies were shared with each family they visited.

Is it a coincidence that American Diabetes Awareness Month, November, follows smack-dab on the heels of Halloween? Whatever the reason, the American Diabetes Association has made it a goal to help others understand diabetes and its consequences. Diabetes is the body’s inability to produce or use insulin, resulting in high glucose levels in the blood.

To the Editor:
I watched the debate between Candace Faye and Dan Carter and was left feeling confused about Mr. Carter’s statements. He told the audience that he did not vote for the gun safety legislation because the bill was restricted to one assault weapon and he thought it should restrict more. Really?

Dancers from The Gray School of Irish Dance had a busy St Patrick’s Day season this year. Of course, it’s one of their busiest times of the year, with performances in local parades celebrating their talents, and this year students from the various schools — located in Newtown, Danbury, Ridgefield, and elsewhere — had performances in Danbury, Essex, and Norwich St Patrick’s Day parades, a program at Danbury Library, and other events across the state.
