Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard President Michele Buzzi said this year’s 100 Family Tag Sale, held annually to support the band and guard, was “one of our biggest years yet.”
The tag sale was conducted at NHS on Saturday, September 26, in the school's cafeteria and in the cafeteria’s courtyard.
An hour into the event people were milling about the cafeteria and courtyard, searching through piles of clothes, inspecting bicycles for sale, and scanning other items, like toys.

The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard took first place in its division at a competition at Norwalk’s Brien McMahon High School on Saturday, September 19.
The Marching Nighthawks band and guard performed this season’s program, “Pharaoh's Legacy,” taking top honors in Best Music and Best Overall Effect.

The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard is set to host its annual 100 Family Tag Sale this Saturday, September 26, in the high school cafeteria, 12 Berkshire Road, from 9 am until 2 pm.
Goods available will include office partitions and work stations, filing cabinets, bunk beds and more furniture options, electronics, yard and power tools, house wares, sporting goods, holiday decorations, clothing, books, toys, and bikes.
All items are priced to sell, and all proceeds from the event will benefit the NHS Marching Band & Guard.

Members of the Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard participated in the Newtown Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 7, but the parade is just one of many events the students will participate in this coming season.
“We have a show that has an Egyptain theme to it, and we have called it ‘Pharaoh’s Legacy,’” said Band Director Kurt Eckhardt.
Each year, Mr Eckhardt said, when it is time to choose a show’s theme, he said he listens to a variety of music.

Drum Major Rachael Fuchs and Color Guard Captain Caitlin “CJ” Jones celebrated their final senior performance of the Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard show “Arachne” at MetLife Stadium, November 15.

The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard are headed for the USBands National Championships on Saturday, November 15.
Competing in Class V Open, the competing bands will take the field at MetLife Stadium in Rutherford, N.J., with Newtown slated to compete at 8:27 pm.
The National Championship features the best of the best from across the United States. Newtown Band Director Kurt Eckhardt said he believes his band could be in the top five.

Competing against 30 of the best marching bands in the East, Northeast, and Southeast circuits, the Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard not only reached their goal of making it into the finals of the USBands “Music in Motion” power regional, but they came within just two points of first place Saturday, November 1.
The event was held at the stadium of the US Navy-Marine Corps Academy in Annapolis, Md.

For the second year in a row, the Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard received the prestigious Cadets Award of Excellence at the USBands New England Championship, held Saturday, October 25, at Veterans Memorial Stadium in New Britain.
Awarded to the school that is determined to be the best in show for creativity and showmanship, the Cadets Award of Excellence can be given to any competing band, regardless of size or class level.

The Newtown Marching Band & Guard will honor all 32 of its graduating seniors this Saturday, October 18, when the school hosts the 18th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Music Festival at the high school’s Blue & Gold Stadium.

Tightly gripping the First Place Class V Open trophy, Newtown High School drum major Rachael Fuchs was beaming after the NHS marching band and guard’s win at Cheshire High School on Saturday, October 11.
“This is great!” the Rachael said, as she and fellow drum major Humza Hashmi congratulated the 136 musicians and guard members.
