• NHS ‘Lock-In Open’ Status Prompted By ‘Suspicious Note’

    A “lock-in open” status at Newtown High School has been lifted, according to emails sent to district parents, following an investigation this morning, Monday, February 23.

  • Youth Charged With Two Felonies In NHS Incident

    Police said that on Monday, February 23, that they arrested a youth under age 18 on charges of first-degree threatening and first-degree falsely reporting an incident at Newtown High School.

    Police allege that the boy wrote a suspicious note which was discovered by a school staff member, resulting  in the school temporarily entering a “lock-in open” security mode.

    Police Lieutenant Richard Robinson said both charges filed against the boy are Class D felonies.

  • Threat On Social Media Puts NHS In Lock-In Mode

    Early Tuesday afternoon, Newtown High School was placed on “lock-in” status due to an unspecified threat which was made on Internet-based social media directly against the high school, School Superintendent Joseph Erardi, Jr, said in a statement.

    At about 1:10 pm, the school was placed in a “lock-in closed teaching and learning environment,” he said.

    During such situations, visitors are not allowed on school grounds and all people in the school remain inside the building.

  • ‘Unidentified Man’ Near Middle Gate School Prompts Security Measures

    Middle Gate Elementary School entered “lock-in” mode for about 45 minutes on Wednesday, October 22, while police investigated the circumstances surrounding the presence of an unidentified man who was spotted on the school grounds.

    There were no injuries in the incident, police said.

    Through their probe, police determined that situation amounted to “a misunderstanding,” said police Sergeant David Kullgren.

  • Police Action Results In Schools Lock-In

    UPDATE (11:45 am): The lock-in has been lifted from both schools. Police activity continues, but one person is reportedly in custody and situation is contained.
