The Newtown Fund

  • Help Out With Holiday Baskets

    To The Editor:

The Newtown Fund was organized in 1959. Our wonderful board is made up of volunteers who are available for emergency requests from Social Services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. During the year we provide funds to help when people fall through the cracks. We pay for medical insurance when someone is incapacitated and can’t get any more help from other sources or when a young person needs extensive dental work and no insurance is available. We have a fuel assistance fund. Social Services is responsible for screening all candidates.

  • Newtown Fund Announces Depot Day, Annual Appeal For Help

The Newtown Fund has for many years helped Newtown’s residents in need around the December holidays. Most referrals come through the town’s Social Service Department or local clergy. Families, couples, and individuals — who are referred to The Fund by Newtown Social Services — receive emergency donations throughout the year but the holiday season is the time when the fund, and residents, provide the most help to make their holiday and their lives brighter.

  • Newtown Fund Preparing For 2013 Holiday Basket Program

Since 2008, Sandy Hook resident Rosemary Trudell  Trudell — center, flanked by granddaughters Haley, left, and Julia — has organized a collection of toys and children’s clothing among the residents of Walnut Tree Village II for The Newtown Fund’s Holiday Basket Program. Saturday, December 14, will be Depot Day this year and organizers are hoping that families, organizations and other groups will choose to do something positive for the community on that solemn anniversary.
