  • Snowflakes Fall Author And Illustrator Visit Sandy Hook School

    Former resident and renowned children’s book illustrator and author Steven Kellogg and award-winning author Patricia MacLachlan visited Sandy Hook Elementary School on Thursday, January 16.

    Mr Kellogg and Ms MacLachlan worked together to create Snowflakes Fall in memory of those lost at Sandy Hook School on 12/14. According to a description of the book, it portrays the beauty, joy, and sorrow of life’s natural cycle.

    Award-winning children’s author Patricia MacLachlan said she became very concerned the first time she heard indirectly from her colleague, illustrator and former Sandy Hook resident Steven Kellogg, following the 12/14 tragedy.

    “It wasn’t until Steven sent a note through my agent and his, saying, ‘I think I have lost the optimism to do what I do.’ And that struck me as a horrible thing to have happen,” Ms MacLachlan said.

    On October 29, Random House Children’s Books will release Snowflakes Fall, a richly illustrated book that hopes to validate both the sadness that comes with great loss, as well as the power memories play in the healing and renewal process following tragedy. The book was a collaborative effort between Newbury Medal-winning author Patricia MacLachland and her fiend, the illustrator and former longtime Sandy Hook resident Steven Kellogg.

    Random House Children’s Books has announced the fall 2013 publication of Snowflakes Fall, a picture book written by Newbery Medalist Patricia MacLachlan and illustrated by Steven Kellogg. After 12/14, the author and illustrated were moved, reported Publishers Weekly, to create a book that would bring a message of hope and renewal to children and families affected by the tragedy. The book represents the first collaboration between the longtime friends.
