  • Joseph P. Grasso Music Festival Set For This Saturday

    The Newtown High School Nighthawks Marching Band & Guard will host the 19th Annual Joseph P. Grasso Music Festival Saturday, October 10, at the high school’s Blue & Gold Stadium.

    Gates open at 5 pm and the show begins at 6 pm.

    Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students and seniors. Admission is free for children under 5 years old. The event is the largest fundraiser for the NHS Marching Band & Guard program.

  • NHS Marching Band & Guard USBands ‘Champs’

    For the third year in a row, the Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard walked away from the USBands New England States Championships proudly as the Connecticut State Champions Class V Open division, besting four other Connecticut bands and also taking the second place trophy for all of New England with a season-high score of 91.975.

  • Band & Guard Earn ‘Bests’ At Freedom Cup Competition

    Competing against 19 marching bands from around the Northeast, the Newtown High School Marching Band and Guard, under the direction of Kurt Eckhardt, was awarded Best Percussion, Best Music, and Best Guard at the USBands Regional Freedom Cup, held outside Philadelphia October 11 to 13.

    Judges scored Newtown 81.2, the school’s best showing thus far in US Bands competition.

    Percussion instructor Dave Brush, who joined the staff this year, was elated.
