  • VFW Essay Competition Open To All Newtown High Schoolers

For the third year, high school students are being encouraged to enter the Voice of Democracy audio-essay competition through the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 308.

Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy Chairperson Donna Monteleone Randle is hopeful a Newtown student will advance through the levels of the competition to the national level this year. The odds, she explained, are fair.

“If you win the Newtown post, then you go to the district,” Ms Randle said.

The Newtown VFW Post #308 named its winners for the Patriot Pen essay contest during several recent presentations.

Last week, VFW Post #308 representatives also announced the winner of the Patriot Pen Voice of Democracy Award as Newtown High School senior Brittany Pearson. The Voice of Democracy scholarship program is an audio-essay contest for high school seniors. As the award winner in Newtown, Brittany’s entry will go on to the state level of the competition.
