  • Signs, Signals, And Codes: Newtown Resident On Development Team For Newest Boy Scout Merit Badge

    Emoticons, Braille, and Morse code are among the various forms of language featured in the Boy Scouts of America’s newest merit badge, Signs, Signals, and Codes. Introduced in February by Boy Scouts of America (BSA), the badge is the 135th addition to the merit badge program.

  • Boy Scout Fundraiser: Christmas Tree Pickup

    Newtown Boy Scout Troop 270 will be picking up Christmas trees from residences again this year as a fundraiser.

    Members will be doing pickups Saturdays and Sundays, January 4-5 and 17-18; and Saturday, January 10. A $10 donation per tree is requested.

  • A Record-Setting Congregation Of Eagle Scouts For Boy Scout Troop 270

    Boy Scout Troop 270, which is sponsored by Newtown Congregational Church, awarded the rank of Eagle Scout to 11 of its troop members in 2013, setting a new troop record. The young men who achieved this rank during the past 12 months are Daniel Ansari, Jack Benedict, Sam Boland, Tyler Coleman, Chris Erikson, Nicholas Lafky, Karan Marwah, Matt Rosa, Henry Summ, Brandon Unger, and Jonathan Vaughn.

    The previous record was six Eagle Scouts in one year, which was set in 2012.

  • Boy Scouts Fundraiser: Christmas Trees Pick-Up

    Member of Newtown Boy Scout Troop 270 will begin their annual Christmas Tree Pick-Up Fundraiser this weekend.

    Residents are invited to contact Troop 270 Leader Scott Coleman at troop270@charter.net to arrange for a pick-up on the weekends of January 4-5, 11-12 or 18-19. Residents are asked for a minimum $10 donation, paid by check made out to Boy Scout Troop 270.
