  • Year In Review: Service, Achievement, And Progress In Newtown's Schools

    For Newtown’s public schools 2014 was an eventful year. Students raised money for causes and charities, completed projects, and demonstrated a range of abilities throughout the year.

    The start of 2014 had Newtown Middle School students testing their knowledge in the school’s final round of the National Geographic Geography Bee, on January 9. After a number of rounds, student Michael Arena was named as the school’s winner.

    As a journalist, author, and full-time observer of rural Connecticut for several decades prior to his death in 1978, Hal Borland became an expert on the coming and going of years. Much of his wisdom and experience was derived from the vicissitudes of life on a small farm in Sharon, where natural processes preside and the status quo is defined by change itself.
