Firefighters arrived at 101 Castle Hill Road at about 6 pm on Thursday, April 23, encountered intense flames shooting out of upper-story windows. Hook & Ladder Fire Chief Ray Corbo said it took approximately 20 minutes to knock the fire down.

It was a long time coming, but on Wednesday, April 22, Newtown Hook & Ladder volunteer firefighters finally celebrated the start of construction of their new firehouse at groundbreaking ceremonies held at the 12 Church Hill Road worksite.
The event marked the fruition of the fire company’s long-running pursuit of new quarters to replace the antiquated, structurally unsound town-owned firehouse at 45 Main Street, which the company has been using since it was built in 1929.

Following a 90-minute public hearing attended by about 50 people, Borough Zoning Commission (BZC) members on Wednesday, December 10, unanimously approved issuing a special zoning permit to Newtown Hook & Ladder Company, No. 1, for the construction of a firehouse at a 3.16-acre site at 12 Church Hill Road.

A two-vehicle accident on Main Street early Saturday morning, September 20, closed a section of the road to through traffic for about two hours as police, fire, and environmental crews investigated the collision and worked to clean up an estimated 100-gallon diesel fuel spill caused by the crash.
About ten hours later, emergency crews were reactivated after some West Street residents smelled diesel fuel, which was then found floating on the surface of a stream that passes through their neighborhood.

Hook & Ladder firefighters had to pop the door on this four-door sedan in order to get the driver out after a motor vehicle accident on Sunday Street last week. The car had initially come to rest on its passenger side following the accident, but passersby pushed the vehicle onto its wheels before first responders arrived on the scene.
