  • With Reflections From Senior Members— Preparing For The Winter Guard International In Dayton

    On Saturday, April 11, the NHS Varsity Winter Guard, performed a nearly flawless routine of their show “Blu” show at the Musical Arts Conference (MAC) Winter Guard Championships, held at Trumbull High School, and came away from the event proudly wearing silver medals in the Scholastic Open division.

  • NHS Winter Guard SWC Champs

    All three divisions of Newtown Winter Guard, Juniors, Junior Varsity (JV) and Varsity, came home last Saturday night, March 28, proudly wearing championship medals.

    Competing in the Southwest Conference (SWC) Championships and USBands Winter Guard/Winter Percussion Regional held at Bunnell High School in Stratford, the Newtown units all claimed first place, much to the delight of their cheering families, friends, and coaches.

  • Newtown Guard Has Strong Showing In Shelton

    Continuing the undefeated streak in the Juniors Division, the youngest level of Newtown’s Winter Guard program, the group once again took home the first place trophy on Saturday, March 14, at the Musical Arts Conference (MAC) competition held at Shelton High School. 

  • Newtown Guard And Percussion Home Show Attracts Hundreds

    An estimated 700 spectators gathered in the gymnasium at Newtown High School on Saturday, March 7, to cheer on ten Winter Percussion and 30 Winter Guard units at Newtown’s 18th Annual Winter Extravaganza.

    Competing in its first home show, the NHS Winter Percussion unit was awarded the first place trophy in the Marching Class division with the score of 79.15.

  • Winter Percussion And Winter Guard ‘Home Show’ Saturday

    In its first combined Winter Percussion and Winter Guard “Home Show,” Newtown High School will host a total of ten Winter Percussion ensembles and 30 Winter Guards this Saturday, March 7.

    Doors open at noon, and the competition will kick off at 1 pm, with a performance of the NHS Winter Percussion in Marching Band Class 2A.

    NHS seniors Daniel Romeo, Trevor Palmer, Noelle Violette, and Michael Ziluck, will be honored during the scheduled awards ceremony.

  • The Top of the Mountain

    Springing is one thing cats do well, so I am more than ready to spring into Daylight Saving Time this coming weekend. DST starts at 2 am on Sunday, March 8, so be sure to set your clock ahead one hour when you go to bed on Saturday night. Now if I can only see over the snowbanks by the time spring arrives, in just two weeks. I sense snowdrops and crocus crying out from beneath the mounds of snow.

  • Newtown’s Strong Showing In Winter Percussion/Guard Show

    In the Winter Percussion’s first competition of the season, Newtown High School scored a 78.45 and walked away with the first place trophy in the Marching Percussion 2A division, defeating host New Milford High School on Saturday, February 21 in a USBands event.

  • Varsity Winter Guard Prepping For Fundraisers

    With 12 of the 18 Newtown High School Varsity Winter Guard members seniors returning to the Winter Guard International (WGI) Championships in April for the very last time, the guard is working hard not only to perfect their performances, but to raise the $900 per girl needed to make the four-day trip to Dayton, Ohio.
