  • Community Center Planning And Construction Forums Set

    The Parks & Recreation Commission and the Commission on Aging are coordinating a series of public information sessions regarding community center planning and construction prior to a March 21 referendum to approve project funding. Providing “the big picture” for people to understand, and “to hear their input on the possibilities of this phased project,” is the main goal of forums to be hosted by the Parks and Recreation Commission, said Parks and Recreation Department Director Amy Mangold.

    Every year, The Newtown Bee is privileged to share the stories of Newtown residents and organizations, and among the many highlighted in 2014, were these stories.

    Newtown resident Paul L. Sirois was named executive director of Regional Hospice Foundation, as of January 1. A financial planner for 17 years, most recently vice president and financial advisor for Union Savings Bank, Mr Sirois previously served as chairman of the Regional Hospice board.

  • Senior Center Director Has Provided A Service Of Love For 25 Years

    It was May 1, 1989, when Marilyn Place walked into the Senior Center at 14 Riverside Road. A mother of two “who volunteered all over the place,” Ms Place was stepping into a part-time position as coordinator of programs, working under Senior Center director Marvi Fast. She had no idea that within weeks, with Ms Fast out on an extended sick leave, she would be catapulted into a position as acting director, and that two years later, she would find herself in the top position.
