    According to a recent statistical report on statewide traffic enforcement, during a 12-month period, Newtown police had the highest “rate” of motor vehicle stops of any municipal police department in the state.

    The study found that Newtown police made 452 motor vehicle stops for every 1,000 town residents who are age 16 and over.

  • Raising Speed Limit On Wasserman Way Under Review

    In response to a couple’s recent suggestion, the Police Commission, in its role as the local traffic authority, is asking the state Department of Transportation (DOT) to study and consider increasing the speed limit on the eastern section of Wasserman Way from its current 30-mph posting.

    Police Commission members discussed the topic at an April 7 meeting.
