The intricate trusswork of the 308-foot-long Silver Bridge has been repainted, with the span again having a silvery color. Until recently, the bridge had been painted brown. The new paint job is part of an ongoing $4.47 million state renovation of the 1936 bridge, which spans the Lake Zoar section of the Housatonic River, connecting Glen Road in Sandy Hook to River Road in Southbury. The bridge, which has carried alternating one-way traffic for the past several months, will soon carry two-way traffic again.

The state Department of Transportation (DOT) plans to select by October the firm which will make major renovations to the steel-truss span over the Lake Zoar section of the Housatonic River, commonly known as Silver Bridge. The bridge links Glen Road in Sandy Hook to River Road in Southbury.
DOT is reviewing five bids submitted for the bridge renovation project, according to DOT spokesman Kevin Nursick.

What locally has long been known as “The Silver Bridge” will regain its argentine luster after the state completes an estimated $5 million renovation project intended to physically rehabilitate the steel-truss span at Glen Road, which crosses the Lake Zoar section of the Housatonic River, linking Sandy Hook to Southbury.
A state Department of Transportation (DOT) spokesman said this week that the two-lane, 308-foot-long bridge, which currently is painted brown, will be repainted a silvery color, based on local requests.
