  • Four-Minute Budget Hearing Calls For School Support

    Karyn Holden and Kinga Walsh, co-chairs of the Newtown Education Advocacy Group (NEAG), were the sole representatives of more than 6,000 Newtown taxpaying households at this week’s annual Legislative Council public hearing on the 2015-16 budget proposal.

    Ms Walsh, reading from a prepared statement, took a little more than two minutes to relate the group’s collective advocacy for the education budget request, and the session adjourned a few moments later with nobody else in the sparse audience opting to come to the microphone.

  • Proposed School Budget Discussed At Community Forum

    Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr., offered an overview of the proposed 2015-16 budget during an evening Community Forum on Tuesday, March 10.

    Others, including Board of Education Chair Keith Alexander, also spoke at the event, and time was set aside for parents to ask questions regarding the proposed budget.

    The community forum was hosted by the districts PTAs and the high school’s PTSA.

  • Council Chair Clarifies Misinformation In Letter, Social Network Posts

    Shortly after reviewing a letter to the editor in this week’s pre-budget vote edition of The Newtown Bee, Legislative Council Chair Mary Ann Jacob reached out hoping to  clarify what she believes is a lingering misconception regarding the council’s ability to add funds back if the school and/or town proposals fail at referendum April 22.
