  • Library Receives Special Gift Of Books

    The Children’s Department of C.H. Booth Library received a special donation, Thursday, March 19, delivered in two boxes by Sandy Hook resident Julia Provey. Inside the boxes were more than two dozen children’s books, gifts of children’s book illustrators/authors Ted and Betsy Lewin.

  • New Partnership Will Provide Library Cards For Kindergarteners

    A partnership between C.H. Booth Library and Newtown Public Schools will offer library cards for all kindergarteners entering the district next school year.

    “I’m really pleased with the partnership and the willingness from the Booth Library pertaining to Newtown Public Schools, particularly with the early childhood initiative,” said Superintendent of Schools Joseph V. Erardi, Jr, during the Board of Education’s meeting on Tuesday, February 17.

  • New Stories For Newtown Deadline Approaching

    For young people in Newtown, a chance to have their poetry, short stories, and/or art published is here.

    The New Stories For Newtown: Words and Images contest has a deadline approaching. Entries are due by October 31, and according to C.H. Booth Library staff, they are looking for as many student entries as possible before that time.

  • New Stories For Newtown Contest Still Open For Submissions Through October

    Entries for the “New Stories for Newtown: Words and Images” contest are due by October 31, and, according C.H. Booth Library staff and committee members, more entries are being sought.

    New Stories for Newtown began last year when Ross MacDonald, a Newtown resident and children’s author and illustrator, suggested the idea to C.H. Booth Library Children’s Librarian Lana Bennison.

  • Authors And Illustrators Offer ‘New Stories For Newtown’

    Authors and illustrators offered different activities and presentations at Reed Intermediate School on Saturday, June 7, for the 2nd Annual New Stories For Newtown event.

    The day before, Friday, June 6, authors and illustrators also visited Newtown’s schools to offer individual presentations at local schools.

  • ‘New Stories For Newtown’ Program Returning

    Thanks to funding through the Books Heal Hearts program at C.H. Booth Library, said Children’s Librarian Lana Bennison, she and committee members Ross MacDonald, Janice Bernard, Yvonne Cech, Kim Weber, and Georgia Monaghan are able to present two days of well-known author and illustrators to students and residents of Newtown.

  • New Stories For Newtown Contest To Build On Author Visit Inspirations

    C.H. Booth Library Children’s Librarian Lana Bennison, and committee members including author-illustrator Ross MacDonald of Newtown, Janice Bernard, Georgia Monaghan, Yvonne Cech, and CHB Young Adult Librarian Kim Young are encouraging writers and artists age 19 and under to take part in a contest that will build upon the June 6 and 7 experience of famous author/illustrator visits to Newtown.
