  • Gridders To Play Brookfield In SWC Title Game, Look To Solidify Top Spot In State

    Newtown High School’s football team is scheduled to play Brookfield in the South-West Conference championship game at 7 pm on Thursday, November 21. The Nighthawks, unbeaten at 10-0, are slated to face a Brookfield team that is 9-1, and 8-1 in SWC play. The Bobcats suffered their only loss at the hands of Newtown in a 35-7 outcome back on September 27.

  • Sandy Hook Run Earns National Award

    The Hartford Marathon Foundation’s Sandy Hook Run for the Families was awarded “Best Amateur Single-Sport Event” by SportsTravel Magazine at the Travel, Events And Management in Sports (TEAMS) ’13 Conference & Expo in Salt Lake City, Utah, last week.

  • Newtown High Swimmers, Divers Shine In States

    Members of Newtown High School’s girls’ swim team participated in the Class LL state championships this past week and came out with strong performances. The diving competition was held at Bulkeley High School in Hartford on November 6 and Newtown recorded three top-ten finishes among 28 finalists. The swimming events were held at Southern Connecticut State University in New Haven on November 12 and Newtown had a half-dozen top-ten individual and relay race placements.

  • Comedy Basketball Game November 23

    The Newtown Underwater Search & Rescue (NUSAR) Dream Team will take on the Harlem Superstars in a comedy basketball game at Newtown High School on Saturday, November 23. The tip-off is set for 7 pm.

  • Blaze Booters Heat Up, Capture U12 Soccer Title

    A late-game goal and some last-minute defensive heroics propelled the U12 Newtown Blaze boys’ soccer team to an unbeaten fall season and the South West Division tournament championship.

    The Newtown Youth Basketball Association will hold its annual 3 on 3 Tournament this Saturday, November 16, at Newtown Youth Academy.

  • Hawk Gridders Overcome Early Mistakes To Blank Stratford

    Newtown High School’s football team shook off some early mistakes to pull away for a 35-0 triumph over visiting Stratford at Blue & Gold Stadium on November 8. Jaret DeVellis scored two touchdowns, recovered a fumble, and recorded a quarterback sack to help the Nighthawks remain unbeaten at 9-0.

  • Celebration Time! Fourth Graders Beat Shelton For Football Title

    Newtown’s fourth grade football team defeated Shelton 13-7 to claim the Colonial League Orange Bowl championship this past week. The Nighthawks defeated New Milford 27-7 in playoff action the week before, to earn a berth in the title game.

  • Boys’ Soccer Team Falls Short Despite Piling Up Chances

    A couple of great chances turned away by the opposing team’s defense — one from right on the goal line — and a rebound goal by the Wreckers were the difference in the Newtown High School boys’ soccer team’s state tournament loss to visiting Staples of Westport on November 7.

  • Hawk Spikers Suffer Second-Round Exit At Simsbury

    Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team saw its season come to an end in the second round of the Class LL state tournament on November 7. The tenth-seeded Nighthawks traveled to No. 7 Simsbury and the hosts prevailed 3-1 (25-22, 25-17, 17-25, 25-15) to advance to the quarterfinals.
