The Newtown Donations Coordination Team is a town-sanctioned group established by First Selectman Patricia Llodra and tasked with cataloguing and seeing that the many “in kind” donations received by the town are presented to the intended recipients.

Congregation Adath Israel of Newtown and the Newtown Interfaith Clergy Association will host a talk by Rabbi Seth and Sherri Mandell on Sunday, May 5 at 4:30 pm. Their talk, “Building Resilience After Tragedy — A Guide for the Individual and the Community,” will take place at Adath Israel, 115 Huntingtown Road. Preceding the talk will be the next Newtown Interfaith Clergy Association monthly interfaith prayer service. This service, started after 12/14, brings all of the faith communities in the area together as one voice, united in prayer. The service rotates to a different house of worship each month to support the healing of the entire town community.
To publicly show their support for expanded federal gun control laws, members of the Newtown Action Alliance conducted a demonstration starting midday Wednesday on the front steps of Edmond Town Hall at 45 Main Street.The alliance termed the event, “Filibuster The Filibuster: They Deserve A Vote,” in response to a threatened filibuster in the US Senate by Republican senators who oppose expanding federal gun control laws.
On Monday April 8, at approximately 6:58 am, Newtown police received a call from a Newtown resident explaining that his 2002 black GMC Denali full-size SUV had been stolen from the front parking lot at Newtown Mobil.The gas station/convenience store is at 62 Church Hill Road, near the Exit 10 ramps for Interstate 84.The theft occurred while the owner was inside the gas station making a purchase.

The Newtown-Sandy Hook Community Foundation announced April 9 the release of $4 million to be disbursed by an interim advancement committee to 40 families most severely impacted by the Sandy Hook Elementary School shootings. The 40 families are those of the 26 victims, the families of 12 surviving children from classrooms directly involved in the shooting, and the families of two people injured in the tragedy.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of an apparently accidental fast-moving fire that destroyed a barn and most of its contents midday on Tuesday, April 9, at 64 Main Street. Volunteers firefighters from all five of Newtown's fire companies responded to the fire.
