George DeWitt Wight Ferris, Sr, 101, of Danbury, died November 8, at Danbury Hospital. He was the beloved husband of the late Phebe (Kellogg) Ferris. Mr Ferris was born in Newtown, July 2, 1912, son of Charles D. and Ophelia (Thornhill) Ferris, and was the last of the Ferris family to be home-birthed at the family homestead on Route 302.
Florence R. Smith, 89, of Southbury, beloved wife of the late Raymond Smith, died peacefully at Pope John Paul II Health Care Center, November 10. She was born in Lynn, Mass., daughter of Julian and Pearl (Wilson ) Reed.
Robert “Bob” J. Rosentel, 85, of Hudson, N.H., died November 6, at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, N.H., surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 2, 1927, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Martin and Elizabeth (Finn) Rosentel.
Rita Macmillan, 72, beloved wife of Gordon Macmillan, died suddenly at Hartford Hospital, November 4, surrounded by her loving family. Born April 25, 1941 in New York City, she moved to Newtown in 1972 where she lived for 34 years.
Anne Marie Zimmermann, 61, a nine-year resident of Gilford, N.H., died peacefully at home after a six-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her family and close friends in her final days. She was born in Port Chester, N.Y. and raised in Nanuet, N.Y.
Prior to moving to Gilford, Ms Zimmermann and her family lived for nearly 30 years in Newtown.
David Thomas Farrell, Sr, 64, beloved husband to Maureen Dillon Buckley of Bridgeport, died October 29 at his home, surrounded by his children and close family. Dave was born on August 29, 1949. He was a lifelong Bridgeport resident.
Elizabeth “Betty” C. (Johnstone) Viens, 78, of Chicopee, Mass., died Friday, October 25, 2013, surrounded by her family after battling cancer. She was the mother of Lynn Fowler and her husband Chris of Newtown. Mrs Viens is also survived by a son, Ross Viens, and his partner Ken Allard of Chicopee; another daughter, Dyan Viens of Chicopee; two sisters, Dorothy Saxton and her husband Jim of Las Vegas, Nev., and Joan Topor and her husband Louie of Chicopee; four grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
