Celeste “Sally” R. Verzaro, 76, of Monroe, beloved wife of the late Louis Verzaro, died peacefully August 30 at St Vincent’s Hospital, following a brief illness. Born in Bridgeport, July 22, 1938, she was the daughter of the late John Peter and Anna Helen Coolis Minalga.
Helen B. Herbold, 94, previously of Newtown, a registered nurse, synchronized swimmer, and certified yoga instructor, died September 1 at the Whittier Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center in Ghent, N.Y. Born Helen Maryann Barry on March 31, 1920, in Chicago, she was one of nine children of Anna Cullen Barry and Michael J. Barry. She was the last surviving sibling.

Kathleen “Kathy” Louise Reichardt, 67, of Newtown died peacefully August 17 at Danbury Hospital, after her three-year battle with cancer. She was born in Danbury, June 8, 1947, the daughter of Isabel and Henry Stine.
Kenneth Gregory Ayles, 50, of Sandy Hook died Thursday, August 21, with his family by his side. There will be a gathering of friends on Thursday, August 28, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street in Newtown, where friends can share stories of Ken. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road in Newtown, Friday, August 29, at 11 am. Interment will follow.
James “Jimmy” Bassett, 57, of Barefoot Bay, Fla. and formerly of Danbury, died August 20, after fighting end stage heart disease for over 14 years. He was born in Danbury, September 20, 1956.In addition to his wife of 25 years, Sue Sheehan Bassett, his sister Lori Hubina and her husband, Paul, of Newtown, his brother Glen and his wife, Beth, of Brewster, Mass., his sisters Wendy Weyer of Danbury and Allison Sagnelli of Brookfield; his sisters-in-law Maureen Hoock and Eileen McCann; and brother-in-law Terry Sheehan of Trumbull survive Mr Bassett.
Joseph “Jack” Harry Gillespy, Sr, 78, a resident of Stratford for more than 40 years, formerly of Bridgeport and always a proud “South Ender,” died August 16 at St Vincent Medical Center. He was born in Bridgeport, a son of William J. and Catherine Weide Gillespy, and was the beloved husband of Kathleen Gillespy for 57 years.
Rose Lillian Richardson Helsel, 89, formerly of Newtown, died peacefully August 18 at the Kingston, N.Y., home of her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Richard Wade, with whom she lived for the past ten years. She was born March 1, 1925, to Lillian (Piesker) and Blaine A. Richardson, in Syracuse, N.Y.
