Mitchell Fried, 90, a resident of New Milford, N.J. for 60 years, died August 25. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Meyer and Esther Fried in 1923, he served his country during WWII in the US Army, from 1942 to 1946.
Mathew Matrullo, 88, of Newtown, died August 24 in Reading, Mass., surrounded by his loving family. Born in Cranston, R.I., December 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Paul and Andreana (Lombardo) Matrullo. He was the beloved husband of the late Eugenia C. (Sibella) Matrullo.
John J. Benanti, 94, Newtown, died peacefully August 20, at Pope John Paul Care Center, surrounded by his loving family. Born July 17, 1919, in Manhattan, he overcame the hardships of the Great Depression and the death of his father, at age 11, by working as a shoeshine boy and Western Union Messenger, to help support his family.
Margaret “Peggy” Hull, 84, of Brooklyn, died August 20, at St Francis Hospital in Hartford. She was born in Bridgeport, July 13, 1929, daughter of Michael and Bertha (Creevey) Dugas. She was the wife of Lester L. Hull.
