The Newtown Education Foundation (NEF) Honor an Educator program is live in time for the holiday season, according to the foundation, and its Evening of Comedy fundraiser is slated to be held January 19.

The Honor an Educator program invites local families to purchase certificates to recognize a teacher for $10. For $25, teachers honored will be presented with a certificate and a “special gift.” An Honor an Educator wall will also be posted on NEF’s website, newtowneducationfoundation.org.

“We are excited to announce that we are working with Castle Hill Chocolates to provide a gift along with the certificate and recognition on our wall for $25,” NEF Co-Chair Allyson Story in an e-mail on December 3.

To ensure certificates and gifts are delivered before winter break, orders must be placed on the NEF website, newtowneducationfoundation.org, by December 13. Orders placed after December 13 may not be delivered until after the school district returns to school following the winter break. All donations made through the Honor an Educator program will be used by NEF to support funding grants for teachers to provide innovative and creative learning experiences for students in Newtown.

NEF also announced it has new officers overseeing the foundation. Ms Story and Kara Tanner are co-chairs, Jamie Pacuk is vice-chair, Ryan Ragan is treasurer, and Laura Tashjian is the foundation’s secretary.

Evening Of Comedy Returning

NEF’s annual Evening of Comedy fundraiser has been scheduled for January 19 Friday, March 1 at Edmond Town Hall. Doors will open at 7:30 pm for general seating, and the show starts at 8 pm. VIP tickets are also being sold, which include a pre-show VIP party beginning at 6 pm in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall. VIP tickets include premier seating for the show and dinner prepared by Sal e Pepe Restaurant of Newtown with wine, beer, and soda included.

This year, NEF announced Alexandra McHale will be featured at the Evening of Comedy. Ms McHale has been on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, HBO’s Comic Festival, and at other comedy venues. Pre-holiday special general admission tickets are $45, and pre-holiday special VIP tickets are $70. Tickets can be purchased on NEF’s website, newtowneducationfoundation.org.

For those interested in joining NEF, it is scheduled to host its next meeting at Reed Intermediate School, at 7:30 pm on Thursday, December 13.
