Lessons for advancing bridge players hosted by Newtown Bridge Club will be offered in January in the Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown.

For players already familiar with the Stayman, Jacoby Transfer and Blackwood conventions, Easybridge! 3 will be held on Wednesdays, 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm, starting January 6. These lessons introduce conventions and techniques such as opening the bidding in 3rd and 4th seat, end plays, New Minor Forcing and negative doubles.

Each session will begin with a 20-25 minute lesson followed by a two-hour bridge game. Tuition is $12 per lesson ($9 for Newtown Bridge Club members), and an optional book is available for $15.

Newtown Bridge Club, the second largest bridge club in Connecticut, is affiliated with the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL). The club holds four ACBL-sanctioned duplicate bridge games each week at Edmond Town Hall: 12:30 pm Mondays, 10 am and 7 pm Tuesdays, and 10 am Wednesdays.

New players are welcomed any time. For players new to club bridge, a separate newcomer game at 12:30 pm Mondays provides the opportunity to be social and have fun while competing with others at the same level.

Game fee is $10 per person ($8 for members). There is a 20-minute lunch break at the Tuesday and Wednesday morning sessions; players can pack a light lunch, and there is also the option of placing an order for noontime pickup from Newtown General Store, next door to the town hall.

For players who are not Life Masters and have fewer than 500 MasterPoints, Tuesday and Wednesday morning games also offer a separate NLM section for four or more tables.

To register for lessons or for more information, contact club manager Susan Fronapfel at director@newtownbridge.org or 203-733-8525. Additional information is also available at newtownbridge.org.
