To the Editor:

The community forums on residential housing at Fairfield Hills made it very clear that Newtown does not want apartments on the campus. The Fairfield Hills Authority has acknowledged the lack of support for residential units on the campus. The Fairfield Hills Master Plan Review Commission  reported that this is not favored by the community at this time.

It is now critical that P&Z also acknowledges the wishes of the community and does not move forward on a zoning change. A change in the zoning, even if The Fairfield Hills Authority does not approve any leases, will mean we will continuously have to relive this confrontation.  Each proposal will reignite the opposition and we will immerse Newtown in yet another bitter battle. Our elected and appointed officials need to cease pushing the residential housing agenda and move forward with other approved plans for the campus.

The Planning and Zoning Commission always has a special obligation to listen to the community, and it has spoken.
