Renowned Pianist To Wow GBS Audience

BRIDGEPORT — Pianist Awadagin Pratt, winner of the 1992 Naumburg International Piano Competition and recipient of the 1994 Avery Fischer Career Grant, will make a much-anticipated return engagement with Greater Bridgeport Symphony on Saturday, January 25.

The program, dubbed “The Mozart Effect,” will feature the following Mozart masterpieces: Il Re Pastore “Overture,” Piano Concerto No. 23 and Symphony No. 38 (Prague). The orchestra will also perform Samuel Barber’s poignant Adagio for Strings.

The 8 pm performance will take place at Klein Auditorium, 910 Fairfield Avenue. The auditorium made several important improvements last summer, including a new state-of-the-art wood-paneled orchestra shell and refurbished seats. The facility offers free, attended parking and is easily reached from all major routes.

January 25 concertgoers will also be treated to a pre-concert program with the GBS String Quartet in the inner lobby of the Klein at 7 pm.

Single ticket costs run from $17 to $47, students under 21 will be admitted at half-price in certain price categories, and special discount rates are available for groups of ten or more. For ticket reservations or information, call the Greater Bridgeport Symphony box office at 203-576-0263 (Visa, MasterCard and American Express accepted) or go online to www.BridgeportSymphony.org. The Klein box office will be open for ticket sales after 1 pm on the day of performance.
