Restricted Turn

A 2006 International 400 Series 4400, operated by Jason M. Plourde, 41, of Wolcott, was traveling northbound on New Lebbon Road near that road’s intersection with High Bridge Road around 2:02 pm, Wednesday, December 22.

At the same time, a noncontact vehicle was traveling south on New Lebbon Road.

Plourde told Newtown police he observed the noncontact vehicle travel close to the northbound lane, to allow more room for a pedestrian.

The International moved closer to the snow-covered edge of the road, then went off the roadway, and traveled along the snow-covered roadside before striking an old Eversource utility pole that was not in service.

The only damage the truck sustained was a utility dolly attached to the front of the vehicle. The International was towed from the roadside and subsequently left the scene without incident.

No injuries reported. Plourde was wearing a seat belt, and the impact did not cause air bags to deploy.

He was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Following Too Close

A 2018 Toyota Camry LE , operated by Petras P. Kandratavicius, 59, of Milford, was traveling north on South Main Street, near that road’s intersection with Wasserman Way, around 12:34 pm, Thursday, December 23.

Ahead of him, Erin M. Domenech, 43, of Danbury, was also traveling north on South Main Street. Domenech was operating a 2015 Kia Sorrento.

The flow of traffic began to slow down. The Camry failed to stop in time to avoid a collision, and the front end of the Camry struck the back end of the Sorrento.

Minor damage was sustained to the left back end of the Sorrento.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts, and the air bags did not deploy on either vehicle. No injuries were reported.

Kandratavicius was given a verbal warning for following to close.

Intersection Collision

Newtown police report that David Wheat, 41, of Newtown, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road near the intersection with Poverty Hollow Road around 5:05 pm, Friday, December 31. Wheat was operating a 2006 Dodge Ram pickup truck.

At the same time, Eric M. Tyler, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Audi S6 sedan, was traveling west from Key Rock Road to Poverty Hollow Road. The vehicles collided.

Wheat told police that the headlights from another vehicle across the intersection, traveling north on Hattertown Road, blinded him and he did not see the Audi.

Both drivers, and a passenger in the Audi, were wearing seat belts. No injuries were reported.

Wheat was issued a verbal warning for failure to grant right of way at a stop sign.

Restricted Turn In Snow

A 2016 Honda Civic LX was being operated by Nathaniel R. Shah, 18, of Newtown, southbound on Boggs Hill Road, around 5:38 pm, Sunday, January 3.

Shah told Newtown police that as the vehicle approached the roadway’s intersection with Willow Brook Lane, he lost control of his vehicle while exiting a curve. Shah told police the vehicle slid on the snow, and went off the southbound shoulder of the roadway. The vehicle then rolled onto its side and down an embankment, trapping the driver inside the vehicle.

Newtown firefighters removed Shah from the car.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps also responded, but Shah declined medical attention, according to the police report. No injuries were reported.

Shah was given a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Heavy Damage To Vehicle

Newtown police report a one-vehicle incident on Currituck Road during a snowstorm that disabled the vehicle but left its operator uninjured.

North F. Ruck, 30, of Hopewell, N.J., was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound on Currituck Road around 9:30 pm, Sunday, January 3. The roadway was slush and snow-covered, but had been treated.

As the Cobalt approached the intersection with Brennan Road, rounding a curve to the left on a downhill area, Ruck lost control of the vehicle and it slid off the roadway. The wheels were turned to the left, and the right front wheel assembly struck a utility pole, causing the axle and tie rod to break. That damage made the vehicle inoperable.

Ruck was wearing a seat belt. His air bag did not deploy, and there were no injuries reported.

The Cobalt was towed from the scene.

Two Charges Follow Crash

A 2013 Kia Forte EX operated by Allen James Wiltshire, 22, of Danbury, and a 2018 Toyota Tacoma double cab pickup truck operated by Joshua C. Drumm, 38, of Newtown, were both traveling east on Berkshire Road around 5:06 pm, Tuesday, January 6.

A noncontact vehicle had stopped in the area of 32 Berkshire Road, near Toddy Hill Road, in front of the pickup truck. The stop caused Drumm to do the same, stopping short of a collision.

Wiltshire realized too late that the truck had stopped, and the Kia rear-ended the Toyota.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts. Neither vehicle’s air bag deployed. No injuries were reported.

The truck was driven from the scene, but the Kia was towed due to damage.

Wiltshire was found to be operating a motor vehicle with only an operator’s permit, and was additionally found without a licensed driver accompanying him. He was issued verbal warnings for following too close and operating a motor vehicle without a licensed driver.
