Sandy Hook Elementary School’s PTA recently announced the names of students who earned top placements in its Reflections Program.

Students from schools throughout the country participate in the Reflections program annually. Top school entries are submitted to the state level of the competition. There is also a national level of the program. This year, students were challenged to create entries for different categories all around the theme of “I will change the world by…”

As the SHS PTA explained to school parents in an announcement, “SHS is proud to participate in this year’s National PTA Reflections Program. Reflections offers students the opportunity to earn local, state, and even national recognition for original artwork they create in response to a specific theme. Students who participate in the Reflections Program get an opportunity to explore the arts and culture, develop creative thinking and problem-solving skills, and recognize themselves as artists. This year’s entries should reflect upon and interpret the theme: I will change the world by…”

The top students in SHS’s level of the contest were Ingrid Lohmann with “Leave No Trace” earned first place in the Primary Visual Arts category; Maitreyi Sophie Sen with “Sophie’s Beautiful World” earned first place in the Intermediate Literature category and first place in the Music Composition category; Elin Lohmann with “Pollinator Garden” earned first place in the Photography category; Josephine DeLaurentis with “Colors of Change” earned first place in the Visual Arts category; and Jada Connelly with “Save the Seas” earned second place in the Visual Arts category.
