Town Truck Slid On Ice

Newtown Police report Ray Disbrow, 64, of Newtown, operating a 2017 Volvo VHD42F Town of Newtown truck, was traveling westbound on Plumtrees Road at 8:15 am on January 5.

Disbrow told police his vehicle lost control on the icy roadways, and went off the westbound shoulder of the roadway, striking a utility pole.

No injuries were reported.

Disbrow was given a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.

Plow Truck Hit

Newtown Police report Daniel Sorrentino, 20, of Sandy Hook, operating a 1995 Ford F350, was plowing snow from a driveway on Key Rock Road at 10:47 am January 7.

Sorrentino’s vehicle entered the roadway as it was plowing, and a 2021 Ford F550 Super Duty operated by Llivicota Loor, 19, of Danbury, collided with the plow on Sorrentino’s vehicle.

Sorrentino was given a verbal warning for failure to grant right-of-way at a driveway.

Collision Near Diner

Newtown Police report Heidi Traister, 69, of Southbury, operating a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox LT, was traveling northbound coming out of the Blue Colony Diner parking lot on Church Hill Road at 7:59 am January 11. Melissa McCabe, 24, of Brookfield, operating a 2011 Toyota Camry, was traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road, entering the left turn lane. The left front section of Traister’s vehicle hit the front end of McCabe’s vehicle.

McCabe complained of leg pain and Traister complained of head pain. Both were treated and released on the scene by Newtown EMS.

Traister was given a written warning for failure to grant right-of-way at a driveway. A photo of this incident was published in The Bee’s January 14 issue.

Hit At Red Light

Newtown Police report Lance Walters, 43, of Southbury, operating a 2008 Ford F550 Superbody, was traveling eastbound on Wasserman Way in the right turn only lane at 1:29 pm January 11. Brian Muse, 38, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., operating a 2018 Hyundai TCN, was stopped at a red light in the right turn only lane on Wasserman Way. The front of Walters’ vehicle struck the rear of Muse’s vehicle.

Newtown EMS responded to the scene after a passenger complained of head pain, but medical treatment was refused.

Walters was issued a verbal warning for failure to keep a reasonable distance apart.

Failed To Negotiate Curve

Newtown Police report Kathryn Mathison, 69, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4matic, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street at 3:23 pm January 13. Mathison failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and traveled off the eastbound shoulder into a yard.

No injuries were reported.

Mathison was given a verbal warning for making an improper turn.

Lost Control Of Vehicle

Newtown Police report Rodrigo Deoliveira-Paula, 34, of Bethel, operating a 2004 Toyota Corolla, was traveling eastbound on Botsford Hill Road at 6:13 pm January 13. While negotiating a left hand curve, Deoliveira-Paula lost control of the vehicle and the front right section of the vehicle struck the side of the hill northbound.

Deoliveira-Paula was given a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

U-Turn Collision

Newtown Police report Patricia Ashcroft, 80, of Bethel, operating a 2010 Honda Civic LX, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road in the area of Old Bethel Road at 10:25 am January 14. Ashcroft did not turn right at the directed detour of Old Bethel Road, then attempted to do a u-turn at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Old Bethel Road due to a road closure on Mt Pleasant Road.

Cynthia Greenfield, 63, of Brookfield, was traveling northbound on Old Bethel Road at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road. Greenfield stopped at the stop sign at Old Bethel Road and then entered into the eastbound travel lane of Mt Pleasant Road behind Ashcroft, who was attempting a u-turn. Ashcroft crossed into the westbound travel lane, then attempted to back-up due to lack of turn radius, and the right rear corner of her vehicle made contact with the front left corner of Greenfield’s vehicle.

Ashcroft was issued a verbal warning for unsafe backing.

Evading & DUI Charges

Newtown Police report Christopher Larowe, 28, of Ansonia, turned himself in at the Newtown Police Department on a warrant from Danbury Superior Court on January 15.

Larowe was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, failure to drive in the proper lane and evading responsibility for injury or property damage.

He was released on a promise to appear with a court date of February 2 in Danbury Court.

Slid On Ice

Newtown Police report Jonathan Goll, 45, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Lexus IS 300, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road and negotiating a left turn at 7:55 pm January 17. Goll’s vehicle slid on the icy roadway and ran off the road to the right, striking some rocks and vegetation.

No injuries were reported.

No charges were listed in the report.

Vehicle Off Road

Newtown Police report Jonathan Sowatey, 42, of the Bronx, N.Y., operating a 2020 Lexus RX 350, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road and negotiating a left turn at 7:57 pm January 17. Sowatey’s vehicle slid on the icy roadway and ran off the road to the right, striking some rocks and vegetation.

Sowatey complained of a severe headache and was evaluated on the scene by Newtown EMS but not transported.

Sowatey was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
