BOYS U10

The Newtown Vipers advanced to the final match of the U10 Striker Indoor Winter Classic after five matches within a group of eight teams. The final was not held because of current CJSA (Connecticut Junior Soccer Association) rules that prohibit the U10 level from competing in result-oriented tournaments.

Everyone received a participation trophy.

The games:

VIPERS 0, RYE (NY) 0: Tony Gallucci and Nick Kallivrousis led the offense while Danny Smith was solid in the net.

VIPERS 0, WESTON 0: Chris Meier and Jason Smith provided a confident defensive effort that shut down Weston while Kevin Davies and Kevin Troy strengthened the outside midfield along with center-mid Justin Miller. Paul Andras and Alex Bowen had a strong game.

VIPERS 0, BROOKFIELD 0: Drew Taylor had a strong game in net as Justin Miller, Paul Andras and Chris Meier had strong defensive performances. Nick Kallivrousis, Jason Smith and Danny Smith led the offense.

VIPERS 1, NEW ROCHELLE (NY) 0: With only one goal scored by all the teams in the Viper bracket, Newtown finished tied for second with a record of 0-0-3 and, by coin flip, earned the right to face the third-place finisher from the other bracket in the tournament playoffs. Danny Smith earned the shutout in net with the defensive aid from Chris Meier and Jason Smith. Max Hoagland, Kevin Troy and Tony Gallucci dominated the outside midfield, but it was a corner kick by Justin Miller that Paul Andras placed into the net for the winning score.

VIPERS 1, NEWTOWN AFTERSHOCK 0: In the semi-finals, Newtown snuck a late goal by the netminder to win the game. Alex Bown, Nick Kallivrousis, and Drew Taylor built strong ball movement while Justin Miller and Paul Andras powered the offense.

In regular season action:

VIPERS 15, CHESHIRE 12: The action was feverish as the Vipers opened the indoor soccer season with an offensive explosion. Eight Vipers found the net, with Alex Bowen, Jason Smith, Max Hoagland, Drew Taylor, Justin Miller, Paul Andras, Danny Smith and Kevin Troy all scoring. Cheshire held a 6-4 halftime lead before the Vipers rallied and held a 12-8 lead late. Cheshire rallied to tie the score 12-12 with 2:30 left to play. Drew Taylor, Chris Meier and Kevin Davies shut down Cheshire after that, allowing the offense to score three more goals for the win.
