Hotline Training For Women’s

Center Begins With Volunteers

DANBURY — The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury is in the process of screening volunteers for its winter/spring domestic violence-sexual assault training.

Dates for the 40-hour training are March 7, 9, 20, 25, 29, April 4, 8, 10, 13, and 19. All weekday classes are held from 5:30 to 9 pm, while the Saturday session runs from 9 am to 3 pm.

A reduced 24-hour training in either sexual assault or domestic violence is also available during the same dates and times. Bilingual and male candidates are encouraged to apply.

This training will quality the volunteer to do crisis intervention counseling, which is a hotline position that can be done on-site during business hours, or after business hours from your home. This training is also a prerequisite for specialized positions such as peer counseling, court advocacy, group facilitation, and shelter advocacy.

Day and evening childcare and other non-counseling positions such as fundraising, clerical support, and writing are also available and require only a five hour orientation.

During the 1998-99 fiscal year, 75 volunteers provided 22,920 hours of support to the 20,580 adults and children served in the greater Danbury area.

If you would like to become part of the solution to abuse, contact the Women’s Center program manager of volunteer services, Melanie Danyliw, at 731-5210. A screening interview is required.
