Early Morning Fire

Hits Old Farmhouse

Dodgingtown, Hook & Ladder, and Hawleyville firefighters were alerted at 1:36 am Monday to a report of a structure fire at 17 Robin Hill Road.

Dodgingtown Fire Captain Joe Masso served as incident commander at the fire.

Dodgingtown and Hook & Ladder firefighters went to the scene, and Hawleyville firefighters stood by as a backup unit at the Dodgingtown firehouse, Capt Masso said.

Deputy Fire Marshal Rich Frampton, who investigated the blaze, said that the fire covered a relatively small area within a wall near a main-level fireplace in the small old farmhouse.

The were no injuries. The fire is estimated to have caused about $2,000 damage at the Carmichael residence, Mr Frampton said. Robin Hill Road extends from Sugar Street, near the Ferris Acres dairy farm.

Two residents were at home when one of them noticed a light smoke condition in the house and called for help, Mr Frampton  said.

Apparently, the heat from a fire, which had earlier been burning in the fireplace, resulted in the wood in an adjacent wall igniting. Firefighters opened up the wall to investigate the extent of the fire. A small amount of water was used to extinguish the fire, Mr Frampton said.

The house remains habitable, he said.
